I have to be brutally honest about this prepaid credit card. It isn’t that great. You would think that a card carrying the Western Union name would be able to offer a better package, but it just doesn’t show up like it really should have.
It really isn’t a bad prepaid credit card. It has everything that you could really want with it. Everyone who applies for the card will be accepted, just like any other prepaid card. There aren’t overdraft fees either. There is an option for free direct deposit and you have the one plus of being able to reload it at any Western Union branch. You will also be able to have a free text message sent to your phone each time you make a purchase with it. There’s not really a better way to watch for fraud. Besides, it’s cool to see the payment go through.
Unfortunately, that’s it. The $4.95 a month fee is waived if you set up a direct deposit account to fund the card. The benefit of reloading at Western Union branches is negated by the fact that it will cost a flat fee of $3.95 each time. Just about every card has reloading fees, but that’s a lot for something that’s should be a big draw to the card.
In the end, it’s a decent prepaid card. It has all the basics and if you plan to do direct deposits it isn’t going to cost that much. My only problem is that it’s just a really bland card that doesn’t offer anything more than the basics at fees that aren’t too forgiving. Maybe I was just expecting too much though.
